NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES ENGINEERING STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (NUESA) AKSU CHAPTER, HONOURS ENGR.(DR) EKERETE USAK FNSE WITH A DISTINCTIVE MENTORSHIP/LEADERSHIP AWARD.


Yesterday, Wednesday 18th of January, 2023, The Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA) Akwa Ibom State University Chapter, conferred on Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak FNSE; the Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eket Branch, the award of Distinctive Mentorship & Leadership. The award was presented to him during the 2022/2023 annual NUESA Conference, in recognition of his numerous contribution to professional and educational development as well as his student-friendly leadership style.

Receiving the Award, Dr. Usak, who also is the National Vice Chairman of The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, appreciated the organizers for finding him worthy of such honour. He also used the occasion to charge the engineering participants in the Auditorium, AKSU main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, (venue of the conference) on the need to be intentional about their academic and career pursuits.

Speaking in sync with the theme of the conference, Dr. Usak stirred up the students to be specific about their goals, ensuring that it aligns with the SMART template. He further challenged participants to strive to be dynamic solution-providers in the society. Adding that, while the future belongs to solution-providers, in engineering, however, the future would mean being equipped with the relevant problem solving mindset.

The inaugural conference which had as its themed “ENGINEERING THE FUTURE WITH TECH: THE MARKET, THE INDUSTRY” had Engr. Emmanuel A. Sam – a United Kingdom trained Subsea Engineer – as its keynote speaker.

Engr. Emmanuel Sam, a Petroleum engineer and Project Management expert spoke on the need for participants to learn more hands-on skills which will position them in an advantaged position among their contemporaries while admonishing them to embrace mentorship as a tool for leveraging the wealth of experience of leaders in their chosen career paths.

Highpoint of the conference was the presentation of awards of honour to deserving distinguished personalities, notably Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak FNSE, chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Eket Branch; Engr. Emmanuel Sam_Technical secretary NSE Eket Branch and Keynote speaker; Engr.(Dr) Henry Johnson_Lecturer, Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering

Engr. (Dr) Ubong S. Ukommi_Head, Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering and Engr. Yireobong S. Akpaba_Lecturer, Department of Marine Engineering were also among the list of awardees.
