2.0: Agricultural Revolution and Food Sufficiency
Agriculture, the most enduring craft since time immemorial, directly impacts humanity’s survival and sustenance. Elder Iniabasi Ekanem, Chairman of the ONNA Transition Committee, is diligently fulfilling his promises to enhance food sufficiency—a key component of the Golden Era’s Arise Agenda, championed by His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Notably, Elder Ekanem has allocated no less than twenty hectares of arable land in ONNA Local Government for food crop production. His community-oriented approach ensures consistent harvests of staple crops across homes in the region.
In a proactive move, he has introduced mechanized cassava planting, efficient weeding, and streamlined harvesting methods, facilitating bulk purchase and export.
As an advocate of “LET’S GO TO FARM,” Elder Iniabasi emphasizes that the farm, situated near the Akpabio Udo Ukpa stadium and within the Council Secretariat complex, is projected to yield nine tons per hectare, generating revenue for ONNA local government.
Additionally, Rt. (Hon) Owoidighe Ekpoattai, the Honorary Special Adviser on Agricultural Development, and HRM Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, the Paramount Ruler of ONNA, have initiated cassava and oil palm planting schemes, respectively.
Mr. Emem Bob, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Development, continues to champion food sufficiency through the Ak-CARES programs, benefiting thousands of households in ONNA.
This collaborative effort will firmly establish ONNA on Akwa Ibom State’s food map, ensuring residents’ well-being.
