The 2024 ONNA Women’s Day was a remarkable gathering of women united by a common goal: to advance gender parity.

The esteemed Rt. Hon. Owoidighe Ekpoattai, Ph.D., chairperson of the event’s planning committee, was instrumental in setting the agenda and highlighting the importance of taking deliberate steps to include women in all spheres.

Her innovative approach of equipping women with seedlings, cuttings, and agricultural extension services is poised to significantly enhance the food security efforts championed by His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

By promoting the cultivation of staple crops at the grassroots level, this initiative promises to mitigate the economic challenges brought on by the volatile dollar exchange rate under the current federal administration.

It is anticipated that within six months, the local markets of ONNA will be abundant with gari and maize, thanks to Dr. Owoidighe’s strategy of distributing complimentary crop seedlings to women.

Dr. Owoidighe Ekpoattai serves as the Honorary Special Adviser on Agriculture to the Executive Governor, playing a pivotal role in shaping the state’s agricultural policies.
