The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Eket Branch Held Her Monthly General Meeting For 2023 At The Engineering Centre.
It was homecoming for the Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak led Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eket Branch as they held their monthly general meeting for the month of January 2023 at the Engineering Centre for first time.
Recall that the branch Chairman Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak (FNSE) had promised during his electioneering campaign to reduce the high cost of renting spaces in a hospitality outfit for the branch’s general meetings, by making sure that the Engineering Centre – a Secretariat that houses the branch – under construction is made for use.
January’s general meeting was set in motion with the reading of the agenda by the branch vice chairman, Engr. Nsikak Udoh (MNSE). The agenda was adopted and duly seconded by Engr. Imabong Inyang (FNSE) and Engr.(Prof) Umanah Itaketo FNSE respectively. Thereafter, Engr. Elijah James (MNSE), the secretary of the branch read the minute of the previous meeting. A few observations were made and it was adopted.
In his welcome remark, the branch chairman, Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak (FNSE), appreciated the almighty God for making the first meeting in the Engineering Secretariat a reality. He reminded members that this was the permanent resident for engineers – urging them to support the Secretariat project to see it’s speedy completion. Dr. Usak used the medium to express his gratitude to members who have supported the project in various ways, while urging others to do same.
As part of the branch’s poise to keep its members updated in key areas of safety, both at home and workplaces, technical session have become an integral part of every general meeting and for January, the branch had men of the Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Division speak on “Identifying Fire Outbreak and Management”.
Delivering the presentation, Mr. Pius Etim of the Federal Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Division spoke on the various causes of fire outbreaks, types of fire outbreaks and safety management during an outbreaks. He further enlightened members at the meeting on the use of the different types of fire extinguishing machines and the fire blanket. A practical session was done outside the premises, which added more clarity to the presentation.
Highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of awards of excellence in service to Engr.(Prof) Umana Itaketo FNSE-as the inauguration lecturer; and Mr. Pius Etim by Engr. Imabong Inyang FNSE. Similarly, the president, Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) Akwa Ibom State University Chapter Comrade Godwin David presented an award of honour to Engr.(Dr) Ekerete Usak FNSE in recognition of his excellent and exceptional leadership style.
The meeting morphed to other matters on the agenda. Prominent among others was; the need for members to update their financial status (dues and levies); a technical briefing from the Secretariat Building Committee chairman; The need for improved welfare and unity among members; a minute of silence observed in honour of the departed immediate past chairman of the branch Engr. Godwin Umoh (FNSE).
The hybrid (physical and virtual) meeting was well attended, having a total number of….in attendant.
The January general meeting was brought to a close by the motion for adjournment moved and duly seconded by Engr. Wale Olanrewaju (MNSE) and Engr. Imabong Inyang (FNSE) respectively.
