Funeral Of Murdered Pioneer Newspaper Staff: Family, Staff Laud Gov. Eno’s Support.

The family of an ad-hoc security staff of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, AKNC, Late Mr. Edet Obot, who was killed by a gang of armed robbers who invaded the Corporation’s premises some months ago, has expressed gratitude to Gov. Umo Eno for his compassionate support to the family, towards the burial of the deceased.

In the same vein, the management and entire staff of the Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation (AKNC), publishers of Pioneer Newspapers, are full of gratitude to Governor Eno for the interest and concern he has shown right from when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The deceased family and management of the AKNC expressed their gratitude to the State governor, Thursday, during the presentation of the sum of five million naira, as support from the Governor to the bereaved family, by the general manager and editor-in-chief of the AKNC, Umoette Umoette.

According to Umoette, “this gift from the Governor is to further show how concerned the governor has been from the day the incident happened.

“Remember, the Governor was not in the country when the incident occurred, but when he heard, he immediately sent his condolences from far away and this was conveyed to you (the family).

“On his arrival, he asked to be furnished with details of the matter and that he should be kept posted on the issue.

“So, as you prepare to lay your beloved father, husband and brother to rest, the Governor condoles with you as well as the management and the entire staff of the Corporation where Late Obot worked until his untimely death.

“And, we all wish the soul of the departed a sound rest in the Lord”, concluded Umoette.

On behalf of the family, Pastor Edem Akpabot expressed his unreserved gratitude to the State governor, Pastor Umo Eno , and also thanked the information commissioner and permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong and Akparawa James Edet, as well as the management of The Pioneer Newspapers, for the Governor’s compassionate gesture to the family and prayed God to bless and protect the governor.

Responding also, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Mary Edet John, who was moved by the Governor’s magnanimity, spoke in tears as she thanked Governor Eno for his show of love to her and her children, by coming to their aid and also prayed for God to bless and guide the Governor in all his endeavours.

Meanwhile, the late Obot’s arrears of salary due him before his death, was recently cleared by the Corporation, while one of the deceased’s sons was engaged as an ad-hoc staff In the Corporation.

Management of the Corporation took the decision, according to Umoette, to close the vacuum that otherwise would have negatively impacted the dining table of the departed breadwinner’s  family.
