A senior clergyman, businessman and philanthropist in Akwa Ibom State Ven.(Dr.) David Udonsek mnse has commended Governor Umo Eno’s efforts in tackling the increasing cost of food items which has resulted in hunger in the state through the Akwa Ibom Bulk Food Agency. Dr. Udonsek described this approach as not just visionary, but timely.
Ven. Udonsek stated this yesterday after the signing into law of the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Food Agency bill recently passed into law by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA)
Dr. Udonsek in his speech said, the Act when fully implemented “will not only ease hunger in the land but will also promote food sufficiency and food security” He thanked the governor for taking the bull by the horn in mitigating the high cost of stable food items and creating a long term plan in solving food scarcity in Akwa Ibom State.
It will be recalled that, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno had on Thursday,14th March, 2024 assented the bill passed by AKHA for the establishment of the Akwa Ibom Bulk Food Agency, a bill aimed at tackling the effect of high cost of food by subsidizing the prices of food through government bulk purchase.
Ven. David Udonsek expressed his confidence on the state team saddled with the responsibility of the Food Agency headed by the honourable commissioner for Economic Development Mr. Emem Almond Bob. He trusts the team’s competence to effectively interpret the governor’s vision through the agency.
He also encouraged farmers and cooperative organisations to take advantage of this golden opportunity presented to them by the governor. He further hinted that the initiative will not only grow their businesses, but will in future make Akwa Ibom State a food hub in the comity of states in the nation.
He advised the Agency to ensure due diligence in the follow up and implementation of the program as it is in-line with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda of diversifying the economy of the state. Dr.Udonsek described the Governor’s vision as that of the biblical Joseph, who on interpreting King Pharoah’s dream, his counsel transformed the economic fortune of the nation of Egypt through bulk food preservation and sales.
Ven.(Dr) David Udonsek thanked the Governor for his people-centric policies and proactive leadership approach in always tackling matters that concerns all in the state.
