BULK PURCHASING AGENCY WILL CRASH PRICES OF FOODSTUFFS -EMEM BOB

As the bill to establish the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency awaits Governor Umo Eno’s assent, citizens have been given renewed assurance of transparency in the implementation process of the food subsidy initiative.

During a live television interview in Uyo, Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Emem Bob, reiterated the commitment to alleviate the burden of high living costs on the populace through the initiative.

The program is set to distribute vouchers to targeted beneficiaries, facilitated by Personal Assistants to the Governor across the state’s 368 wards.

Regarding the agency’s progress, Mr. Bob highlighted ongoing discussions with trade leaders to select accredited agents. These agents, upon capacity validation, will oversee branded shops and redemption centers in designated markets across the 31 local government areas.

Emphasizing the rigorous selection process, Mr. Bob stressed that accredited agents would undergo thorough scrutiny and sign agreements with the Bulk Purchase Agency, with their names published for public scrutiny. The process, akin to the AK-CARES program, will ensure transparency without favoritism.

Moreover, the state government plans to establish a buffer warehouse to safeguard against any attempts to undermine the initiative. Contrary to concerns, the initiative aims not to undercut prices for other traders but to collaborate with them.

Incentives are also in place for accredited agents, including a percentage of voucher reconciliation as motivation. Public enlightenment campaigns will precede the initiative’s launch, ensuring widespread awareness and appreciation.

In Mr. Bob’s words, “The entire Akwa Ibom will be proud of the man they elected as Governor,” signaling confidence in the initiative’s positive impact on the state’s populace.
