GOVERNOR UMO ENO ASSURES OF EASE OF DOING BUSINESS IN THE STATE
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Umo Eno on Tuesday, said a properly managed tax regime can be positioned as an investment incentive free from the negative connotations that sometimes undermine the role of taxation in an economic system.
He also said that his administration by the tenets of ARISE Agenda, aims to “intentionally and deliberately improve on our ease of doing business in the State.”
The Governor was speaking as a guest at the opening ceremony of 2024 Retreat of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, TAT, held in Uyo.
Represented by his Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Emem Bob, the Governor added that the State was already at an advanced stage of harmonizing tax system to remove overlapping areas, smoothen the collection system and ensure higher tax revenue without necessarily tax off take of only a few but widening the tax net to include all texable adults in a progressive tax regime.
“Fortunately, while we are doing this in the State, the Federal Government is doing similar thing at the national level. This is very encouraging, deserving of support and recommendations,” said the State Chief Executive.
On the economic development model of the state as captured in the ARISE Agenda, Pastor Eno said, “This Agenda addresses among other macroeconomic areas agriculture, rural development, tourism and rapid industrial development to free the State to broaden opportunities. Our aim is to fast track development and bring prosperity to the doorsteps of Akwa Ibomites.”
He commended the body for bringing their retreat to the State and assured of a return with fun memories of a State with modernized infrastructure, friendly people, soothing ambience, and with air of peace and tranquility.
“Your schedule may be tight, but permit me to insist that before you return, please take a tour of our landscape, interact with our people and rub minds on investments that may appeal to you as you choose to make Akwa Ibom your preferred destination for business and holidaying,” he stated.
