AKSG: Economic Commissioner Holds Start Up Meeting With UNFPA Programme Implementing Partners.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Economic Development, Mr. Emem Almond Bob, held a start up meeting with implementating partners of United Nations Population Fund ( UNFPA) Programme.

The start up meeting which took place today Monday, 23rd October, 2023 at the conference room of the Ministry of Economic Development, was to interface with implementing partners (IP) for immediate commencement of 2023 programme implementation.

The UNFPA Agency is partnering with Akwa Ibom State Government in promoting right of women and adolescent girls to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunities through prevention of maternal mortality, ending unmet needs for family planning and ending gender based violence and harmful practices against women and adolescent girls.



Mr. Bob whose Ministry coordinates the activities of all Donor/ Development partners, Programme/projects implementation in the State, explained that the
meeting was necessary for adequate briefing on projects to be implemented in the Forth quarter of 2023.

The Commissioner lauded the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his proactive leadership as shown in the ARISE Agenda, which has provided policy direction on different sectors of the State economy.

The Economic Boss on behalf of the State Government, thanked UNFPA for their magnanimity in providing funding to support the State for Programme implementation.

In an overview on the importance of the meeting, the Director International Cooperation/State Programme Director, Dr. (Mrs) Uduak Ekong, made a presentation on the 2023 UNFPA Programme Guidelines/Modalities, for Forth quarter implementation by partners in the State.

Dr. Ekong outlined the Objectives and expected outcomes of the meeting to include; ensuring that the Programme activities are implemented based on the stated goal and Objectives, implemention guidelines/ modalities, effective service delivery and timely reporting among others.

In attendance at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Economic Development, Barr. Christopher Udoh, Sub Implementing partners drawn from the Akwa Ibom State Ministries of Health, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Women Affairs, Youth and Sports as well as Education.
