ONNA-USA Houston is a non-profit organization in Houston, Texas that focuses on empowering young athletes and improving their quality of life through sports. The organization has previously worked in education and healthcare sectors and is now expanding into sports development in the community.
Some of ONNA-USA Houston’s past projects include building a Computer Learning Center, conducting Medical Mission trips, and donating furniture to schools. These initiatives have had a significant impact on the community by providing access to healthcare and education for indigent students.
One of her annual events is the ONNA-USA Houston Inter-Secondary Schools Football Competition. This competition aims to identify and nurture young talent in sports. Engaging in sports has numerous benefits for young people, such as improved physical health, mental well-being, skill development, time management, and teamwork.
Outstanding student athletes will also receive guidance on accessing foreign scholarships or sponsorships through sports. Winning teams in the competition will receive prizes sponsored by ONNA-USA Houston. The event has received approval from the Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board and plans are underway to include it in the secondary schools’ games calendar across the state.
The opening match of the competition took place on October 6th, 2023, at 9 am at the Akpabio Ukpa Sports Stadium in ONNA where Foreign Delegates from Houston, Academia bigwigs, football stakeholders and political icons converged.
Subsequent matches will be held every Friday at the same venue while the final match is billed for 13th December, 2024
Dr. Sam Etukudo serves as the President of ONNA-USA Houston, Dr. Ereteh Ebong is the Sports Committee Chairman, and Bishop (Prof.) Udofot Idiok is the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee.
