FOREIGN DELEGATES, CHAIRMAN SSEB, FOOTBALL STAKEHOLDERS, AND ACADEMIA BIGWIGS STORM ONNA FOR ONNA-USA SCHOOL SPORTS
The ONNA-USA Houston Inter-Secondary Schools Football Competition, in partnership with the Directorate of School Sports, kicked off its inaugural football match at Akpabio Ukpa Sports Stadium in ONNA. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests such as Houston Texas Representative, football stakeholders and academia bigwigs who graced the event with their presence.
Chief Odudu-Abasi Israel from Texas USA performed the kickoff ceremony after flying in solely to attend the unveiling and opening ceremonies on 29th September and 6th October respectively.
Vice President National School Sports Foundation/Director School Sports Akparawa Emmanuel Ebong represented Rt Hon Ekaette Ebong Okon, Chairman State Secondary School Board, at the competition’s launch where he called for high level sportsmanship throughout.
Bishop (Prof.) Udofot Idiok applauded ONNA Community in Houston for paving a path for younger generations to escape poverty shackles through sport during his address.
Players adorned their branded football jerseys with school insignia and participated in a match pass alongside Chief Odudu-Abasi Israel, Akparawa Emmanuel Ebong, Bishop Udofot Idiok and Hon. Nda Nda – all of whom posed for salute.
The highlight of the opening ceremony was a thrilling encounter between Community Secondary Commercial School Ikot Akpan Ishiet and Qua Iboe Church Senior Science School Ndon Eyo where six goals were scored. CSCS Ikot Akpan Ishiet leaped to top position within their group after scoring five goals while conceding just one during regulation time.
On Friday 13th October 2023 at the same venue Oniong West Secondary School Ikot Edor will take on Government Secondary School Okat followed by ONNA Peoples High School going head-to-head against Community Secondary School Ikot Ebiere at 9:00am and 10:45am respectively.
