2023: Nung Ndem Says Onna Must Not Struggle Senate Seat with Mkpat Enin, Backs Ekong Sampson, PDP Candidates

Nung Ndem Clan in Onna Local Government Area has spoken firmly in unison that the 2023 Akwa Ibom South Senate seat goes to ‘brothers’ Mkpat Enin and Onna must not struggle for it, since it was clearly not their turn.

These were the positions of elders and chieftains of the clan in their speeches during the PDP Ward to Ward tour in the area on Thursday. Candidate of PDP for Akwa Ibom South Senate seat, Dr. Ekong Sampson, for Eket Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, and for Onna State Constituency, Mr. Sunday Johnny were all in attendance at the rallies at Community Hall, Mkpok and Primary School, Ikot Ndua Iman in Nung Ndem Ward I and II respectively.

Speaking on behalf of Nung Ndem 1, the Ward Leader, Obong Mfon Unaedet, promised the readiness of the ward to support and work for the victory of Dr. Ekong Sampson for Senate and for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming election while advising them not to go against their promises when elected.

Also speaking, a former House Assembly member for Onna, Hon(Barr.) Ini Ikott, stressed that Nung Ndem have only one Senatorial District candidate in the person of Barr. Ekong Sampson, Okpolupum Etteh for House of Reps and Mr. Sunday Johnny as State House Member. Barr. Ikott is the Director of Organization in the Ekong Sampson Campaign Council.

At Nung Ndem Ward 2, the Ward leader and former Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. Imo Attat reassured party and all the candidates of their readiness to return 96% percent of their votes to PDP. For Senate, Hon. Attat reaffirmed categorically that Nung Ndem II and indeed, entire Onna fully backs Mkpat Enin and will vote massively for Dr. Ekong Sampson.

On her part, a prominent woman leader in the area and wife of former Paramount Ruler, HRM Akwa Obonganwan Patience Ukpa, who spoke on behalf of women, assured that Onna women will vote massively for Dr. Ekong Sampson for Senate and for all other candidates of the Party.

Director-General of Campaigns in the area, Obong Godwin Ben a.k.a Black said people should not mistake rights for privileges, saying the 2023 Senate seat was Mkpat Enin’s right, adding that Onna will not struggle the Senate seat with Mkpat Enin.

Earlier while presenting the candidates, the Chapter Chairman of PDP in Onna, Barr. Ubong Adiakpan extolled the quality of persons put forward by the PDP for elective positions in the forthcoming election. He particularly lauded Senate hopeful, Dr. Ekong Sampson as an experienced parliamentarian, a consummate politician with proven capacity who will ‘clearly shine in the Senate’. The Party Chieftain reiterated the collective decision of Onna to back Mkpat Enin for Senate, dismissing any person from Onna vying for the Senate seat as ‘being on his own’.

Senate hopeful, Dr. Ekong Sampson in his speech promised to work in partnership other representatives of the area and stakeholders to continue in the spate of development going on in Onna. He said PDP had ensured good fortunes for Onna in the past years. The former Environment and Petroleum Resources Commissioner thanked Onna for their continuous support and pledged fruitful representation.

On Dr. Sampson’s entourage to the Ward Tours were former House Member for Onna, Hon. Godwin Oton, former State Lawmaker for Okobo, Hon. Efefiong Antigha, Chapter Chairman of PDP in Mkpat Enin, Hon. Anietie Sunday, Secretary of Campaigns, Hon. Ufok Frank, Secretary of Council, Mkpat Enin, Princess Eno Ekanem, Councilors from Mkpat Enin and members of the Campaign Council
