AKSG INTENSIFY MOVES TO CURB HUMAN TRAFFICKING, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, ORS
…as Deputy Governor Hosts Nigerian Immigration Officers, Key Government Officials
The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Moses Ekpo MFR, on Thursday played host to the Nigerian Immigration Service, resident officers in the Local government areas, Local Government Chairmen and the Women Affairs Commissioner in his office, to build synergy towards curbing the menace of illegal immigrants and human trafficking in the state.
The Deputy Governor in his adress welcomed the key government functionaries to the meeting stating that it is very crucial most especially for all the agencies involved to meet regularly to discuss the challenges faced by the State in human trafficking, hence proffer modalities to mitigate and ameliorate the alarming rate of most social vices in the state.
Mr. Ekpo said that the issue of illegal immigrants who are not properly documented by the Nigerian Immigration Service are eating up into the expenditure of the State since they are not here to contribute to the economy rather they cause havoc and crises.
Also speaking was the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare Dr. Ini Adiakpan, intimated the need for Local Government Chairmen to look critically and involved critical stakeholders most especially the opinion leaders like the traditional rulers, village heads and the chiefs to ensure that the village heads knows the members of their community in oder to identify strange elements when they come in.
She maintained that sanctions should also be made for people /chiefs who are aiding and abetting foreigners without proper documentation.
She called on Youth leaders/village youths to join in mounting surveillance in the community, noting that such moves will help in controlling crimes in the state.
She hammered on the issues of minors who are being abused, molested, raped and trafficked by illegal migrants.
