Industrial visits by engineering branches of Nigerian Society of Engineers is a frontline requirement in providing members with hands-on experience in engineering practice.
Eket LGA habours an Engineering firm in her suburb relatively unknown to the world but with vast experience in engineering measurement and controls.
It was the turn of the branch to visit Engineering Automation Technology Limited (EATECH), a leading employer of labour and engineers, an indigenous engineering consulting firm, proffering cutting edge solutions in the area of oil and gas engineering/technological services, aviation and general technology especially in areas of fluid measurement, meter calibrations and instrumentation & controls
Welcoming the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) team Mr. Davies Ehiobu _ the Project QHSE Manager of the company took the team on thorough safety cautions, the mission of the company, as well as it years of delivering quality services.
Leading the NSE team on the industrial visit, was the branch chairman, Engr.Dr. Ekerete Usak FNSE. In his address, the chairman hinted that the visit is timely and in line with the need to keep the branch abreast with engineering/technology service providers within it domain.
Engr Dr Ekerete Usak aptly informed engineers in the team that EATECH Ltd has wide experience in the field of measurement with services provision to ExxonMobil, Chevron, She’ll and Total in all their facilities and are a force to reckon with in the world with facilities that are second to none in Africa.
Speaking further, Engr. Dr. Usak appreciated God and the MD of EATECH for the approval to visit his engineering outfit. He mentioned that the visit was for the branch to familiarize itself with the company as well as create a pathway for synergy and partnership.
He expressed his delight at what seems like a surprise discovery to most of his team members that such an engineering services provider resides in the oil-rich city of Eket without the knowledge of many.
He humorously drew allusion with the classical story of a man whose house was surrounded with diamonds, but he sold it in ignorance using the proceed in quest to find diamonds.
Harping on quality service delivery, expertise and professionalism, the chairman attested to the years of experience with which the company operates. He mentioned that as part of the need to boost the technological intellectual base of NSE Eket Branch, the branch allows for presentation of technical papers during it monthly general meetings and that the branch will be more than ready to welcome such papers from resource persons from EATECH. Dr. Usak also used the occasion to invite the MD to the inauguration of the 8th executive of NSE Eket Branch coming up on the 7th of December, 2022.
In the NSE delegation was Engr.Prof. Umana T. Itaketo FNSE, a renown professor of Instrumentation and Control, “Guinness Books of Records” and former head department of Electrical/Electronic & Computer Engineering, University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria. He recalled how such engineering/technical services was hitherto taken to Port Harcourt and Warri and was in high praises to Dr. Emmanuel Okon for the choice of Eket to situate EATECH Industrial base.
Responding on behalf of the company, the MD/CEO Engineering Automation Technology Ltd. Dr. Emmanuel Okon appreciated the privilege to host professional from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eket Branch. He commend the aggressiveness of Engr. Usak led adminstration, while appreciating the desire of the branch to partner with EATECH.
Briefing the NSE team of some of the fundamental strides of the company, Dr. Okon mentioned that EATECH specializes on Construction Drafting, Installation/maintenance of offshore, Upgrade, Instrumentation & Control, Retrofitting, Project and Training. In his words “In one word, we are looking at building a one-stop centre where we will add value, improve competence and capacity.”
Dr. Emmanuel Okon also added that, the choice of Eket for EATECH’s Industrial base was borne out of the need to contribute to the economic growth of the state, ,provide opportunities to expose engineering graduates during ITs to gain first-hand experience in the field and build human capacity. He added that a nation without good human capacity is a nation drifting towards failure.
The NSE team was thereafter conducted round the premises of EATECH Industrial Base, Ikot Udoma _ Ataidung Road, Eket by the Construction and Engineering supervisor, Mr. Ohioma Friday and it was an amazing sight for the team. From the Technical store through the Power substation, the Instrument Calibration Laboratory, The Reservoir tank to the Control/Data room, it was indeed a blend of professionalism and experience with opportunity for Engr Prof. Umana Itaketo to lead in knowledge transfer and training participants in Instrumentation and Controls module.
The industrial visit climaxed at the Training Center where the MD, Dr. Emmanuel Okon further briefed the NSE team on some of the engineering revolutions that the company is embarking on. Thereafter, a vote of thanks was delivered by the secretary of the branch Engr. Elijah James MNSE on behalf of the team.
