COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE GENERAL MEETING OF ONNA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (OCDC) HELD AT THE COUNCIL SECRETARIAT, AWA NDON, ONNA LGA ON THE 20TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2022

*INTRODUCTION*

The *ONNA Community Development Council (OCDC),* an organisation devoted to the socio-economic development and cultural reawakening of the people of ONNA Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, at its General Meeting held at its Secretariat, Awa Ndon, ONNA Local Government Area on Sunday, 20th February 2022, considered several issues of urgent importance, including, but not limited to:

*1. CHOICE OF SUCCESSOR BY H. E. GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL*

*OCDC noted with satisfaction the choice of Successor by His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, in the person of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno,* currently the Hon. Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, come 2023.

Coming at a time when it is critical to consolidate the prevailing atmosphere of peace and unity, and the industrialisation effort of the current administration, we wholeheartedly align with, and commit to support, the decision of various stakeholders in the State on the choice of Pastor Eno as most eminently disposed, qualified and prepared to carry forth the baton of leadership of the State in the incoming administration.

*2. PURPORTED ENDORSEMENT OF A SENATORIAL HOPEFUL BY HRM, THE PARAMOUNT RULER OF ONNA LGA*

*Council takes deep exception to the recent attempt in some quarters to misrepresent the royal blessings and fatherly prayer extended by our Chairman-in-Council, the Paramount Ruler of ONNA, HRM Raymond Timothy Inyang, to a Senatorial hopeful, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen,* during his consultative visit to the
Awa-Afaha Clan Council, as an endorsement of his bid to represent the people of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the incoming 10th National Assembly.

As a matter of traditional courtesy, the doors of the Palace remain open to all aspirants on consultation, irrespective of party affiliation. *The audience and the generic fatherly prayers of the Paramount Ruler and other members of the Traditional Ruling Council (TRC), who remain apolitical, do not translate in any way to an endorsement of any such aspirant for the intended office.*

*3. PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE AND COOPERATION AMONG THE PEOPLE OF ONNA*

*OCDC sues for greater unity and peaceful cooperation and collaboration among and between various stakeholder groups within the LGA, especially among the youths.* It is our informed opinion that an atmosphere of rancour and rivalry would be counterproductive to the attainment of optimal development of our LGA for the benefit of our present and future generations.

In conclusion, *OCDC remains committed to supporting the Completion Agenda of H.E. Governor Udom Emmanuel,* and to advancing the socio-economic interest of the people of ONNA LGA, especially in the areas of education, health and enterprise development.

We encourage fellow indigenes of ONNA, and indeed all well-meaning Akwa Ibomites, to take advantage of the opportunities provided by this administration in employment and job creation, by equipping ourselves with the required information and skill sets.
