LET’S RISE UP AND REPOSITION OURSELVES FOR PROSPERITY – EKID PEOPLE’S UNION
The apex socio cultural organization of Ekid nation, made up of indigenes of Eket and Esit Eket local government areas, Ekid People’s Union, yesterday, held her annual national congress with the theme : EKID : REAWAKENING AND REPOSITIONING FOR PROSPERITY.
The event which had a massive turn out was held at Prince Udo Edukere Hall, Uquo, Esit Eket.
In a communique issued at the end of proceedings, the congress unanimous agreed to establish Ekid Investment Company and institution of Ekid Education Trust Fund. Hosting of an Ekid Economic Summit, production of an authentic history of Ekid, among others, also topped the agenda
A minute silence was observed for two prominent Ekid sons, Senator Etang Umoyo and Chief O J Asubob, who passed through the great beyond during this period under review.
A keynote address on panacea for economic development: Ekid nation in perspective was delivered by a BOT member, Rtd Admiral ( Chief ) Francis Dan Akpan while the guest speaker was a university don, Prof Monday Akpan Abiatu
New Board of Trustees members, Grand Patrons, New Executive Council Officers led by Dr Samuel Udonsak, were also presented and ratified by the congress.
It was indeed a gathering of who is who in both Eket and Esit Eket local government areas. Each village in the two sister local government areas was represented by the village head, village council Chairman, women leader and youth president
Ekid People’s Union seeks the promotion of peace, development and prosperity of its people and territory. The preservation and enhancement of Ekid’s social and cultural heritage as well as the its rich history and evolution are at the core of the Union’s mandate.
