The annual Carabana Football Academy League began today, (Tuesday, December 07, 2021) at the football pitch of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Uyo.

The 30 minute per half intra-family fiesta, allows players of Carabana Football Academy, to compete amongst themselves, upon being divided into four (4) teams, each headed by the various Assistant Coaches, with the Head Coach, Itoro Xavier, the only one without a team, acting as the pseudo Match Commissioner.

Coach Oto Daniel, is the head of Team Daniel, Coach Ubong Vincent is in-charge of Team Osondu, whilst Coach Zaphaniah Bako handles Team Zaphaniah and goalkeeper trainer, Eno-obong Frank leeds Team Fela.

In the first match of Day 1 fixture, Team Daniel played out a 1-1 draw with Team Zaphaniah: Izuchukwu Okonkwo, found the back of the net upon connecting Gana’s low cross in the 35th minute for Team Zaphaniah, but the celebration was victory song was lowered in the 57th minute when Humble Smith’s beautiful header entered their onions bag, for the equalizer. The entertaining match was stained by the Team Oto recording two(2) red cards: a straight red to goalie,Joseph Monday (a.k.a Bayelsa) for using foul language on the Referee and Joshua Jumbo, for a second (2nd) bookable offence.

In the second March, Team Osondu humbled Team Fela, 2-0: a goal in each half.. Solomon Boyo connecting with the head from Gift Anefiok’s cross. Gift’s domineering role in the midfield made manifest when his inch-perfect pass, found Daniel Ase who scored, beautifully, from inside the box.

So far, Team Osondu, the winner of the inaugural edition (and defending Champion), is atop the log with 3points, and goals difference of +2, with young goalie, Izuchukwu Okoroafor, earning a clean sheet between the sticks.

Match Day 2, will pair Team Osondu with Team Oto for tomorrow’s curtain raiser by 8am, while Team Zaphaniah will trade tackles with Team Fela, an hour after.
