WOMEN AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER URGES WOMEN TO SPEAK UP AGAINST VIOLENCE
The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan who is a strong advocate and an activist has called on women to speak up against Gender Based Violence at all times.
Dr. Adiakpan made the call at a Flag-off ceremony of 16 days activism against Gender Based Violence to mark the International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women.
The commissioner who is a member of Gender Based Violence Committee appreciated the Governor’s wife for championing the event and making it a phenomenal one.
Her words “Your Excellency, you have taken Akwa Ibom State to another level. Today we are witnessing another dimension where you have spoken to the women and to their conscience”
Dr. Adiakpan lauded the Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for providing the necessary resources for women and girls in the State, especially the legal framework and VAPP Law put in place to protect the women and children.
Dr. Adiakpan appreciated the law enforcement agencies, traditional rulers, FIDA amongst others for their impact in eliminating gender based violence in the State.
Dr. Adiakpan urged the Women to continue to fight against gender based violence, speak up, and be their sisters keepers by lifting each other in the spirit of togetherness.
