…. PROMISES REGULAR TRAINING OF STAFF
A one – day International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Accrual Basis Transition sensitization workshop for public servants in Akwa Ibom State Government employ has been declared open in Uyo, the State Capital.
The Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, who performed the opening ceremony on Friday 24th September, 2021 at the ICT Resource Centre of his office said, the essence of the workshop is to work out modalities for the collation of assets and liabilities for inclusion in the IPSAS Accrual Financial Statements of the State.
Pastor Andrew-Essien stated that the process of migration from IPSAS Accrual Basis started in 2019, promising to train his staff in order to be well equipped, for the task ahead of them. “You will not be able to carry any assignment you are not trained on”, he said.
The key officers involved in the training are Heads of Account, Planning Research and Statistics, Stores, other charges and procurement.
He said internal auditors are key players in the realization of the IPSAS Accrual for the promotion of financial integrity in Government.
The Accountant General maintained that, the training would go “beyond theory” as greater aspect of it, would be system based.
Pastor Andrew-Essien stated that, some States of the Federation including Akwa Ibom, have domesticated both fiscal responsibility and debt management laws, which according to him are the fundamental requirementsl for the operation of IPSAS Accrual Basis.
The Head, Fund Directorate in the Office of the Accountant General, Pastor Mfon Udomah praised the State Government’s effort at ensuring that Akwa Ibom migrates from IPSAS Accrual cash basis to IPSAS Accrual.
Pastor Udomah equally lauded the Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien on regular training of staff, pledging the support of staff to the smooth migration to IPSAS Accrual Basis.
